How much is too much risk?

Peters MapOh, our world …. to ride across is no simple decision …. so many options!

After pouring over blogs and websites of past and current expeditions, a more sketched route for our travels is surfacing.

1. South America from Argentina and across the length of Brazil’s coastline looks like a great beginning.

2. A big decision to work through is traveling through Northern Africa from Senegal – need to work through the value vs risk of this part of the world as Mauritania, Western Sahara, and parts of Morocco are not stable for foreign travelers. Kidnappings and land mines seem the biggest concern.

3.From France, Nic has his wish to ride through the Swiss alps, following Italy and Slovenia we will take a route that looks stunning and hilly through Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, and Greece to Turkey.

4.Following a traverse through Turkey where we hope to meet up with some friends and a cycle group, we will go through some very hilly roads across Albania to ride across Azerbaijan to take the ferry from Baku to get to Turkmenistan across the Caspian Sea.

5.There is then a road that will take us through Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan to the boarder of Russia! From Russia there is a pass through the Altai range into Mongolia. We then get to ride mostly off road across Mongolia to the capital, Alan Batar.

6.From there we fly to and ride the length of Japan. Then we fly to and ride the Northeast coast of Australia. Then to Canada, where we would like to actually start in Jasper, to get an extra few hundred km through the Rockies… As if there have not been enough climbs! We then will follow the divide in the USA, which again is mostly off road.

7.At the end of that section we fly to Mexico and get to ride through all, except Belize, of the Central American countries! Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, the worlds happiest country – Costa Rica, and Panama! Then along the Northern coast of Columbia and Venezuela before heading back to Nevis to celebrate.
